The human case for local AI

AI is an extraordinary engineering feat, but it is not human intelligence. Algorithms cannot understand, will, desire, or create. Most modern white-collar work is sterile enough to be automated, which has blurred this distinction, but that says more about the jobs than about the people doing them.

Lose that distinction and a false anthropology emerges: humans become efficiency problems, and machines become instruments of replacement. Builders with this degraded view design tools to replace intrinsic human traits. Users then outsource creativity, judgment, and reasoning to systems that cannot possess them, while handing over private data they wouldn't share with anyone else. Privacy from surveillance is the first reason to change the shape of human-AI interaction.

That change is becoming possible through local inference, as strong models shrink and consumer hardware improves. Frontier labs are pressured as token prices collapse toward compute costs plus thin margins. The application layer is pressured because software now writes software, letting people build their own workflows. Hardware is the hardest layer to commoditize.

I am building 0switch to accelerate that outcome: helping people own AI, stop paying for subscriptions, and keep their data. I am not attaching my name. This is a tool, and its effects matter more than who builds it.
